There’s a reason Maison Crivelli perfumes are very unique on the niche perfume shelf: its founder never set out to become a perfumer. Thibaud Crivelli built his house around something simpler and harder to copy — The memories. Every fragrance he’s released started as a real moment he lived through, long before it became a formula.
A Childhood Shaped by Nature and Travel
Thibaud Crivelli grew up moving. His father’s work took the family across continents from a very young age, and that early, constant exposure to different cultures and environments gave him something most perfumers spend a career trying to recreate: a genuine, first-hand memory bank of raw ingredients, encountered in the places they actually grow. Long before he ever briefed a perfumer, Crivelli was already collecting the raw material of his future brand — he just didn’t know it yet.
From Perfume Marketing to Founding His Own House
Crivelli spent roughly a decade living and working in Asia, including several years in China, where he worked in marketing for major perfume houses. That experience gave him an insider’s view of the industry — and, eventually, the confidence to combine his own emotional memory with the technical talent of professional perfumers rather than trying to become one himself.
In 2018, he founded Maison Crivelli in Paris. The idea was simple to state and hard to execute: take a real, personal experience, and work with a master perfumer until the fragrance actually matches the memory.
The Four Collections That Built Maison Crivelli
Maison Crivelli’s catalogue isn’t a random list of releases — it’s organised into four distinct chapters, each with its own role:
Expériences Olfactives (Olfactory Experiences) — the founding collection, launched in 2018. These are the house’s most accessible eaux de parfum, designed as an entry point into Crivelli’s world.
Chocs Olfactifs (Olfactory Shocks) — launched in 2021, this is where the house moved into full-strength extraits de parfum. The collection opened with Hibiscus Mahajád, Maison Crivelli’s very first extrait, created in partnership with master perfumer Quentin Bisch. Inspired by the taste of hibiscus tea in a gemstone market, it combines hibiscus and damask rose with cassis, mint and cinnamon over a base of leather, vanilla and musk — and it’s still one of the most talked-about fragrances the house has ever released.
Évasions Olfactives (Olfactory Escapes) — the travel-anchored line, and home to the house’s best-known trilogy of oud fragrances (more on that below), plus its newest chapter exploring musk.
Mystères Olfactifs (Olfactory Mysteries) — the house’s confidential, limited-run editions.
Oud Maracujá: The Fragrance That Made Maison Crivelli Famous Worldwide
If one fragrance put Maison Crivelli on the map internationally, it’s Oud Maracujá. Launched in 2023 in collaboration with perfumer Jordi Fernández, it pairs bright, juicy passionfruit and saffron up top with a deep, smoky base of oud, patchouli, amber and vanilla. That contrast — tropical and sharp against dark and resinous — is what makes it work equally well in summer and winter, and it’s a big part of why the fragrance has the longevity and reach it does.
The recognition followed: Oud Maracujá won Best Niche Fragrance at the 2024 Fragrantica Awards, cementing it as the house’s flagship. It’s unisex, like every Maison Crivelli release. We’ve written a full breakdown of the notes and what it actually smells like in our Oud Maracujá review, and if you’re deciding between it and its sibling, we’ve also compared it directly in Oud Maracujá vs Oud Stallion.
Oud Cadenza: The Exclusive Third Chapter
Less well known, but worth mentioning if you’re already a fan of the oud trilogy: Oud Cadenza. Released in 2024, again with Jordi Fernández, it takes the same oud foundation and contrasts it with toasted sugar and candied dates and fruity notes, warmed further by saffron and cardamom. It’s a limited release sold exclusively through Harrods and Maison Crivelli’s own online shop — not something you’ll find on general niche perfume shelves.
If you already love Oud Maracujá, Oud Cadenza is a safe next step: it shares the same DNA — oud contrasted against something sweet and unexpected — just with a smother tuches, more dessert-like sweetness in place of the fruit.
23 Fragrances, One Vision
Between the four collections, Maison Crivelli’s catalogue now runs to 23 fragrances (22 of which we carry at GALOP, with Oud Cadenza the one exclusive to Harrods and the brand’s own site). What ties all of them together isn’t a signature note or a house accord — it’s Crivelli’s insistence that a perfume should be built from something that actually happened to him. Whether that’s convinced you yet or not, it’s hard to argue with a track record that includes a Fragrantica Award and a genuinely loyal following worldwide.
